George Stephenson was born in Wylam 1781 just a few miles upriver from Newcastle.He became an early engineer & invented the 1st steam locomotive called 'The Rocket'.
As we now know,Railways went on to open up many countries in the world thanks to our local lad 'Geordie Stephenson'. He has became known as the father of the railways and sadly died at just 67 yrs of age.
