The Royals

So King Charles is the first monarch to reveal what they have paid in tax, £12.so many millions. How many millions is he earning to be paying that much tax. It has also been announced that £11 of tax payers money will be spent to pay for new boilers at Windsor Castle. Like a lot of people keep on saying in the country get rid of the Royals and save tax payers money.

How many millions do the crown estates make from the royal deal. They run his estates and after giving him a yearly spend to run his households the extra profits go into the Crown Estates for the government. When you see at the moment most people are think we are run by a communist government. And it’s not tax payers money, it’s his own money given back. This arrangement was made so long ago, people are not told about.

I agree with you Maria, it always amazes me when people speak of getting rid of the Royal Family, as none are going to feel better financially.

Well we must be told a load of lies from the TV news, last night it was said that £11 MILLION POUNDS of tax payers money is to be given for the upgrade of boilers at Windsor Castle, plus tax payers money not sure how much it was for the £300+ refurbishment of Buckingham Palace, last night the King and Queen have decided they are not going to live there, they are moving to Clarence House.

They aren't moving to Clarence House they already live there. It seems there's a rolling programme of improvements across the royal residences, how much comes from the public purse and how much comes from the Royal coffers is up for debate as we are no doubt looking at estimates rather than nailed down figures.

Thomas, are you surprised we are told a load of lies by TV. Windsor castle belongs to the Crown Estates so I would assume the money will come from them. Always millions left over after paying the king his annual payment from what used to be was called the Civil List. They say if you repeat a lie long enough people will believe it’s the truth and as Margaret McDonald asks, who will we have in their place. Recently we have seen the North Korea leader, imagine having to accept that.

I most certainly would not like to see the Royals replaced by a President, the mind boggles as to who might take on the role, a few names spring to mind none of them would be top of my list, in fact I shudder to think how this would work.

The Royals bring in a lot of Revenue to the country due to tourism, the Civil List is much reduced now due to a ‘skimmed down’ Royal family, I do think if the idea of getting rid of the Royals were ever put to a vote I, personally, think the vote would be in favour of keeping the Royal Family.

Hereditary rule should not feature in a democracy.
Imagine if Andrew had been the eldest.
The King is being applauded for his £12M income tax payment. On what income? Not disclosed.
I would like the same arrangement- not declare my income but pay a voluntary contribution.
The sovereign grant has been doubled to £100M - very helpful!
Last year the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall made £27.4M for the King and 23.6M for the Prince of Wales.
They are exempt from corporation tax.
They are exempt from capital gains tax.
The duchies are worth £1.8 Billion and are owned by the King and Prince William. They are exempt from inheritance tax.
I hesitated in writing this, since it’s not really about Hebburn, but we often see comments from certain board contributors who are fans of the monarchy. I am just giving an opposing view.

Well said Bob. As it’s been said quite often on here that royalty bring in a lot of tourism, they may do but that is from foreign tourists, as British people living outside of London can’t afford it.

I don't quiet understand your logic, Thomas. That the Royals bring in foreign tourists. Isn't that a good thing? As those foreign tourists not only spend money on visiting, say, Buckingham Palace, but they'll also visit Windsor, Tower of London, etc, spending on hotels, food, transport, etc. Isn't that a good thing?
I also don't understand your comment that British people living outside of London can't afford it?

Malcolm, my comment about British people living outside of London not being able to afford visiting London is because of the extortionate prices that's charged to enter all the places you have mentioned. To have say a fortnights holiday in London and visit all the attractions I guess it would cost about over £500+ pounds.

I have the utmost respect for the Royal Family, the main ones do a fantastic job for this Country but have to admit there are a few hangers on, Harry and Meghan are a total disgrace and both should have all titles removed. The future looks good under William, Catherine and their family.

Thats how I feel Mac H. Most of the rest of world envy us having the Royal family. Andrew is a disgrace and really let his family down. I just don’t understand the hate from some in the country, but I suppose it’s always been there for some.

Well as it’s been said time and time again if everyone liked the same thing it would totally be a boring world. Yes there is a lot of posts on here that have nothing to do with Hebburn but if they weren’t put on some days there’d be nothing put on at all. Just my view.

This Forum is called Hebburn and Neighbours, when Norman started the Forum the postings were mainly about Hebburn and neighbouring areas, thing is the people who post on here, although they are from Hebburn and surrounding areas many don’t actually live there anymore hence the postings being of other topics.

I know I don’t always agree with some of the comments but there again I know that others don’t agree with me, that’s what makes it interesting different opinions, different topics, that is great but we do need to be civil, I was called a sad female a short while ago, no need for that but obviously the person who called me that thought it necessary!!!

Keep on posting everyone different topics make, for most of the time, some interesting reading, as they say use it or loose it we most certainly do not want the Forum to disappear.
