remember this place where thousands tasted our first pint, played or tried to play darts snooker then completely paralytic and crawled home, Happy days. I 👍👍👍

I left Hebburn in 1961 l can not remember ROYs pub looking like your photo Peter mind you it was a pub l hardly went into l was a Quay lad the CaLLY, was my pub as well as the Commercial Ellison st.

I think that pub is the Argyle Hotel / "Claps" / Ramada / Roadhouse on Victoria Road West. It was demolished several years ago, can't remember exactly when.

It closed February 27th. 2015 ready to be demolished.

I fell off the wall opposite Roys one sunday afternoon while waiting for my dad who was inside.I had to go to the hospital to get stitches in my chin. The scar in my chin is still visible.

I knew it as ""The Argyle Hotel""...I lived diagonally across Victoria Road at number 89.
My Father always referred to it as "'Roys""

The 'Argyle Hotel' that Joseph showed being demolished was known as 'The Clapps'.
The 'Station Hotel' on Glen St-Station Rd corner was known as 'Roys'.

My grandmother, who lived in Hebburn all her life, often referred to High Roys and Low Roys. I always thought High Roys was opposite the library. Was I right? And where was Low Roys?

I was told the reason for claps was something to do with one of the managers, someone will know, so don't Clap your hands yet.😳😳😳

A photo from 2011 it was then called The Roadhouse a petition was set up to save it but it was demolished 2015.Had a number of names over the years .

'Low Roys' was the Caledonian Hotel on Lyon St and it is still there today.
