Two postcard photos today with a black and white one and a colourised one. Postcard photo dated (posted) 12th October 1903 (black and white). The second postcard photo is dated 1918 (colourised). The ferry is the GH Dexter.

So sad when you think of all the Industry that used to be on the Tyne with the loss of jobs and opportunities for young people !

Why would anyone want to buy this postcard and send it to someone beats me.

A bit depressing to say the least.

Certainly a loss of jobs in the ship building industry on the Tyne but for me job opportunities have opened up for young people in fields which did not exist in the times depicted in this photo. IT , renewable energy, commerce and many more industries have evolved in the past 25 years or so. I know it doesn't help the industrial heritage of the Tyne but it does look a lot healthier and cleaner than in days gone by.
