As it is already half way through the working week here's another header in our City of Newcastle. If the Norman's hadnt came and built a castle here, this photo would have been titled 'Barras Bridge area of Monkchester' 😀😀👍

I don't know if anybody realises but the original St Thomas church was on the quayside from about 1170. It was decided to relocate it to it's present position in 1826 and work on the site started the following year designed by John Dobson. The building was completed by 1830 and the church and it's congregation was revitalised, by 1851 the congregation reached 2400 for Sunday services. That's a huge turnout.

Tyneside is seemed in history covering many centuries and yet the school curriculum covered none of it. I did History in O Level and A Level but did not include any local History

It is the same in the schools today so it hasn't changed.
You'd think the schools could find time to add a little piece of Local History to the curriculum. The children are leaving school knowing very little about our history.

Hi Irene,
If you google local 'Tree Surgeons' you will find a couple that do jobs in Hebburn.

Thanks Norman I’ve got a name of someone so hopefully we will be able to get it sorted soon. I had arranged for Go. tree Surgery’s of Hebburn but I was expecting them this coming Wednesday so I contact them to check they were still coming only to discover business was closed. It would have been nice for them to inform me.

There are lots of "cowboys" touting their wares!!

Hopefully you will find someone who can recommend someone professional and reliable based on personal experience.

I've said this a few times recently whilst driving locally. Councils seem to have gone over the top planting trees everywhere. We all love and need trees but not everywhere or they will cause problems.
Ive seen houses locally with trees blocking natural day light getting though the front windows.
Driving to Washington (Co Durham) a few times recently was like going through a tunnel of trees. I knew the route very well years ago but not now cos you can't see any landmarks just trees trees trees.
This photo below shows a Hebburn office block full of windows alongside Waggonway Rd.
It was built with lots & lots of Windows to allow daylight in.It could even be worse now as the photo is from a while ago and trees grow fast.
