South Shields Hospital

Posted by Mac Hardy on 30/10/2026, 7:45 pm

Been a patient at South Shields General on Ward 6 where I could not have received better care and attention, absolutely wonderful service and couldn’t fault the meals, delicious!

So grateful for the care and attention from all.

Get well soon Malcolm.
My son Matthew just told me about your accident.
It's great that even though your getting spoilt rotten by the Nurses you can still keep intouch with us.

Thank you for all the best wishes, Norman, I could not go with missing my daily fix of visiting your site, I am looking for a good home for my lovely dog if anyone could help, I doubt I will be able to take care of myself when I get home , she is a wonderful dog and I love her so much but worry about her.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

I think many of us can echo Mac's experience of good care in the NHS.
Once you get in!. That is the real problem and why so many have to resort to private hospitals etc to reduce the lengthy waiting list.

Hi Mac. Contact Dogs Trust, and explain your situation. They should be able to help.

I was in Ward 6 myself part of last week and I agree with you on how caring they all were. Do think you will be unable to go back to your own home?

I did a spell with hospital radio in the hospital and I often wondered how many people actually listened to it. We had the old hands like John Johnson who played the old favourites and I used to do the 60's. The phone ( ext 3471) did get used but not often. I believe it is still going but we got moved to channel 5 when Patientline was added with phones and tv. Great days in the 80's.
