1/2 c. flour, sifted
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 c. shortening
1 egg, well beaten
1 c. mashed ripe bananas (2 to 3)
1 1/4 c. rolled oats
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 400°F.
Sift together flour and next 5 ingredients:
sugar, baking soda and, salt, and spices.
Cut in shortening with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse corn meal. Add shortening, eggs, bananas, rolled oats and chopped nuts, and blend together well.
Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls onto on greased baking sheets, 2 inches apart. Top each cookie with a whole nut pushed into the center.
Bake 15 minutes or until light brown and cooked through. Remove from sheets at once.
