"Some definitions are more equal than others."

I love it here. Japan certainly still has its issues, and among them are significant remaining issues in terms of the status of women. There are still creepy guys aplenty, albeit only rarely among non-oldsters in any public situation. Younger guys (apparently) tend to reserve their expressions of assumed male prerogative in private situations. But Japanese women, regardless of age, have a LOT more scope for just telling such a guy to get lost. In business, the glass ceiling is starting to fracture...but still has a long way to go. By Asian standards, women have it better here (and in urban China, actually)...but that's a BIG qualifier.

I may be returning to the US for a bit (family matter). Not enthused, to be frank. I think American society is on the verge of possibly-violent dissolution, and I want no part of it.
