In all my many many many years of attending various churches and debating religion, I've always been amazed by one thing:
Why do people give the words in the bible so much authority? Especially the Old Testament?
We have NO REAL IDEA who wrote the Old Testament.
It was written at a time when humans knew less about the world around them than the average 3rd Grader has today. It was written by men at a time when superstition was rife.
Yet, just claiming that it's "the inspired word of god" is enough for billions of people to accept it as somehow authoritative.
The same with Paul's letters and the Gospels in the New Testament. Why do Paul's letters have so much authority? Why do the Gospels?
So to me, right out of the Gate so to speak, the entire religion is on a very shaky foundation.
