My “assumption” is based on the obvious. As I see it. Yes thinking was involved. But of short shift because the obvious is there for anyone to observe the killer’s behavior. He was one cold calculated POS. Further, the trajectory is right in line from the shot slightly upwards to Kirk’s neck. And even appears to have nicked his shirt collar. There was no rear entry.
