remind me of the 'birther movement'. All huff and no gus. What do these two things have in common?" - you MIGHT ask. In my opinion - these types of assertions arise from the same root with the same motive - shred the belief systems and instill fear that the foundation of the Republic is crumbling.
The CEO of a news website fights for 'freedom of expression' or "combating disinformation". What she, and Stewart, are engaging in. A small segment of Stewart's audience will listen and believe we are on the cusp of dictatorship. How unfortunate is that?
Isn't it fascinating that both the right and the left believe that their 'freedom of expression' have been censored. Of course, numerous reports have shown that the last three Presidential Administrations (2 Democrats, 1 Republican) DID engage in censorship. Something that social media has made it easy for them to do. All that lovely disinformation that just pours through the ethers that each side of the political spectrum blames the other for.
I wonder if Ressa stumbled upon any common denominators of influence of censorship around the globe? The US once maintained a permanent presence in the Phillipines (ending in 1992 under Bush ONE) - anyone remember why that permanent presence was required? Anyone?
Absolutely NO DISRESPECT to you Skye - it IS important for people to understand how governments are overthrown or toppled - however - it is just as important to make sure the real culprit is identified in the endeavor of prevention.
JUST my not so humble opinion.
