Tuesday: Rooted in the Old English Tīwesdæg, honoring Tiw (or Týr), the Norse and Germanic god of war and combat.

Wednesday: Traces back to Wōdnesdæg, or Woden’s (Odin's) day. Woden was the chief Norse/Germanic god, king of the gods, and god of wisdom.

Thursday: Comes from the Old English Þūnresdæg, meaning Thor’s day. Thor is the Germanic god of thunder and storms.

Friday: Named for Frigg (or Freya), the Norse goddess of love, beauty, and marriage. It comes from the Old English frīgedæġ.
