Mondo, that is mostly likely the reason humans will go extinct. The alleged aborigines could create communities that could survive for tens of thousand of years, mostly doing very limited damage and changing their lifestyle to adjust to massive change of weather and environment.

Civilizations are too greedy and selfish to think of generations down the line to save them enough raw materials to survive. I have great doubt that we could recreate civilization if our technology failed suddenly.
