Gold vs. DJIA

5-year performance:

Gold: $1654 - $3114 - 88%
DJIA: 21678 - 42155 - 94%

The gold performance is based on spot bullion raw gold. Fabricated gold products like US & foreign gold coins gain numismatic value in addition to spot market gains. An ungraded BU 2020 $1-ounce gold US Eagle coin currently sells for $3300. In MS70 condition, it sells for $3400-3600. These coins have outperformed the DJIA consistently over the past 5 years.

What this suggests is that both have been good investments, and a balanced portfolio would have both.

Gold does not do anything. It just sits there.

Dow Jones Companies make stuff. The Companies make jobs and satisfy customers.

So investing in Dow companies will help make our country greater.

Would it be better to invest in savings bonds instead of gold?

Producers of gold make a profit like any other company.

Stocks which pay no dividends are no different than investing in gold.

Bottom line, who cares if someone classifies gold as a non-producing asset? ROI is the issue, not arbitrary labels. 90% ROI in 5 years works for me.

Qualify your absolute pronouncements.

Clue: When you buy NYSE stocks, the company does not get the money to use.

You are just buying shares that someone else is selling.

That's why it's called a Stock Exchange.

The only time the company gets the money is when there is a new stock issue, called an IPO or something similar.

New stock issues are usually handled by a broker, underwriter or investment banker, and then listed on a stock exchange like NYSE or NASDAQ for subsequent active trading.

The investment banker sells the stock to investors/shareholders, issues stock certificates thru a registrar, and gives the issuing company the net proceeds after deducting commissions and underwriting fees.

Then, active trading can begin on the listing stock exchange.

Deets, Inc . is the owner of ALL stock. No one gets certificates.

Holders of stocks are considered beneficiaries. The grab happened back in the 1990’s. I posted this info on the board some time ago. Next up is to grab everything.

Meanwhile, Ethereum has nosedived from a high of about $4800 down to $1885.
