Sometimes question are hard to answer. 6 trillion dollars is a lot of money to just vanish.

Property that has a decline in value is what the market will bear. Therefore it vanishes as if the higher valuation never existed. The bloated value is just digital hot air. Overvalued. Poof.

Large scale sell-offs meant people were not interested in keeping the stocks, because the value was collapsing because people are no longer trusting the economy, and government policy.

If you have enough stock, you can trigger a sell-off, or trigger sudden purchases. There are even computer programs that will automatically sell your stock if it goes below a price you program, or buy a stock if its price rises to a certain price.

We have people who disappear now, too.
