Are you leaving debt for your children? Is that moral?

Are Americans too lazy to pay off their debts, so they leave it for their kids?

"The U.S. national debt per person is currently around $106,110. This means that the total debt of the federal government, which is $36.2 trillion, is equivalent to approximately $106,110 owed by each citizen in the U.S., according to the Peterson Foundation."

My parents died debt free. I inherited a third of their old house. When my brothers and I sold the house, I ended up with about twice as much as my share of the national debt. I'm grateful for that.

Except societal debt, it can't be inherited really.

If you die with 3 mortgages, zero cash, and 6 maxed credit cards, your children inherit no debt.

The estate pays as much as it can out of the assets left, and the kids inherit nothing.

They don't get to keep the house, but they don't owe anything to anyone.

I am trying to pay things down. As soon as any money comes in that's above bills, I pay a credit card down etc. Slow process, especially since my kitchen sprang a leak and had to have part completely rebuilt. It's a give and take. Our house, thankfully, has grown in value substantially. And I have life insurance that should cover anything that's still standing.

I know couples who bought houses in decent neighborhoods that had decent schools for the benefit of their children. They struggled with the overhead.

They also charged their credit cards to their limits to provide for their children the things they needed.

When the children went out on their own they paid down their debt. It became a case of nothing to leave but their home.

No brats, no debts, no bills.

I can pay off what you post as “my share” of national debt but prefer the confiscation of the assets of those who swindle us through fiat economics. Hedge funds, etc, all those that received that $10,000,000,000,000 and more should pay. Or just cancel all debt and pretend it never happened.

No kids, no debt.
