Could this be a way to get rid of the weak and only the strong survive?

Weak versus strong is a FALSE DICHOTOMY.

Nothing shows this better than the 1918 flu epidemic.

Young, strong, healthy people were at HIGHEST RISK, while children and elderly were partially exempt. 1918 flu killed by overstimulating the immune response system. Those with the strongest immune responses were preferentially killed.

That which constitutes "STRENGTH" depends on the particular situation and pathogen.

Herd immunity is far superior.
