I was quite surprised at your opinion re what’s going on in Portland.

My opinion has depended on reporting, as well as the way I see LA responding as if it’s not serious because the troubles are just in some sections of town. A short trip down the freeway demonstrates the opposite.

Katie Daviscourt has been on TV with footage and commentary about what she’s been following.

She’s a journalist who’s been active following Antifa in Portland where they now completely control a couple of blocks and where she was assaulted and the police refused to bring charges to the perp. Some of the action plus her black eyed face was there for all to see.

Surround the two blocks. Have buses standing by.

Take them off to a camp in eastern Oregon. Jail those who have been known to create trouble. Police there probably think she asked to be assaulted. Wrong venue. And those punks might be of use, kinda like on standby.

...is based on multiple conversations with least a dozen people I know in Portland, from their first-hand observations. Those observations include those of two people who have been involved in protesting (peacefully) at the ICE facility.

In addition, I have very recently visited Portland myself. I've been going back and forth between Japan and the US on personal business quite a bit for the last several months, although mostly between Tokyo and Phoenix/Scottsdale. I'd be curious to know where these "Antifa" occupied blocks are, as I saw nothing of the sort (although that was not, obviously, the purpose of my trip).

While Portland has the usual big city problems with property crime and high levels of homelessness (the latter being pretty extensive in Portland, to be sure), there was nothing that remotely justified military occupation...or anything beyond substantial reform of the (useless) city government and police force. That's a matter for the state, not the feds...and I stand by that unbendingly.

I'm asserting they are premature and excessive, and I stand by that. There might have been a reasonable justification during the worst of the COVID-era BLM rioting...but the current ICE protests (and general state of things) in Portland don't remotely approach that level.

I'll not go into the details of my take on the actual motivations and intended outcome of this action in this forum (political...), but I suspect the gist is obvious.
