I had a "standoff" with a Waymo (self driving taxi) today....

I had to drive down to South Austin today into Waymo territory. I pulled into a parking lot that is really narrow at the entrance and then it spreads out into an open lot with multiple businesses.

I pull in off the street and a Waymo comes in off the alley trying to pull out onto the street. I can't back up because there is a building blocking my view of the heavy traffic in the street. The Waymo just needed to back up about 3 feet to let me through and then it could of exited, but it just sat there. I had to maneuver my car almost against the building to let it out before I could continue forward.

They are taking jobs from human drivers, but they make mistakes humans usually don't make.

I understand they will eventually be better than human drivers, but right now they are just cheaper than human drivers. We can't stop technology from progressing, but we should wait a few years until robots are really safer drivers.

Sometimes they get confused and just sit there blocking traffic and blocking emergency vehicles instead of getting out of the way.

What will this world be in another 50 years?

It seems weird all this new technology . I feel maybe it will just make the rich richer and the poor poorer and I don’t know what the new society is going to do with all the extra people .
If you got any land you better hold on to it because you may need it to survive on .

It’s an ephemeral life support system. We are embracing a virtual reality. Cold hard nature is the actual reality.
