What have you studied about religion? Specific books? Classes?

Have you done etymological studies for comparing original languages?

Apologetics?

Philosophy?

Kind of heavy going sometimes but well worth the read.

Every day I am researching and writing about religion.

A lot of comparative study, folk beliefs tied to faith, cultural impacts and variations, superstition, a little triva (can anyone say footnotes?)

One thing is for sure, my mind is always well fed

Specific books: I have read The Bible cover to cover twice. Melvin Rader: "The Enduring Questuions", Plato's "Republic", others.

Comparing languages: English, 5 years of Latin, 2 years of French.

Philosophy: Socrates to James and Butterfield. Religion: Spinoza, St Thomas Acquinas, Søren Kierkegaard, Kant, Descartes, Pascal, et al..

I doubt that comes under the category of religious study.
The origins of "religious" beliefs (explanations of the world around us) seem fairly evident, notable for the relative commonality of the various creation stories. How we get from there and how religion becomes related to power is really interesting.
I don't have any heroes, but even when I know what will happen, I always find myself rooting for Arius and later for the Emperor Julian.
Most interesting books. The Unauthorized Version--Robin Lane Fox------God against the Gods--Jonathan Kirsch.
