Fertilizer and how they rip you off

I had been buying fertilizer. The place I was buying it from had not got a new shipment in this year but last week they raised the price of it 35% from the week before because of the war they said. So I didn’t buy anymore . What they had in stock pile was last years price

They always charge the higher price...nothin new there.

They always charge the new price regardless what they have already bought.

I usually buy and pay in January to lock in the price. I didn't this year because it was higher (In January)

Last year 28-0-0 $383, this January $460 +12%
Last year 0-0-60 $440, this January $475 +8%
Last year 18-46-0 $753, this January $820 +9%
When I started farming, they were all less than $75 and corn was $2.50- $3. Now corn is around $4.50. It's not right but that's the way it is.

I hate to think of what it is now. I am considering sitting this one out. All I have bought is seed corn, and I can return that, or keep it until next year. I'll lose less money doing nothing. Just brush hog everything twice so the weeds don't go to seed.

Or maybe rent it out?

Property taxes in Nashville/Davidson County are spproaching farm GDP ...

Property tax on the parcel with the buildings went up 26%.

Corn is $4 plus. A few years ago I sold corn for $7. Maybe it is time to quit "hobby farming."

Farming is bad regardless who is in power.

My farm land is worth far more as residential or commercial development use than farming.

It's an historic 9th generation 1780s land grant right in the middle of a tax-crazy Democrat-infested real estate bonanza.

It may be time to sell and buy farm land out in the boonies for 1/10th the price. City life has lost its luster with traffic, crime and greed. The character and culture of the people have changed. The emergence of dozens of new architecturally-sterile glass and concrete skyscrapers at the cost of the extinction of the historic past is disconcerting, demoralizing and disorienting. This is no longer the city of my historic family.

My tax man told me the only way you make money on a farm is when you sell it.

How many acres and what crops? Any livestock?
