This is a good short video that makes sense.

Student Loans were supposed to improve things, but it seems like they made it worse.

They grossly overpay athletic coaches, some $20 million or more per year, and admins.

Chancellors & presidents paid $ millions. Professors overpaid, more than US Senators. Excessive staff positions. Expensive and excessive facilities and amenities.

Counselors, tutors, shrinks, "therapy dogs".

Inflation.

Government.

Because dummies are admitted thus driving up the profits. There are YT vids

whereby basic questions are asked of college students. Dumb as F. Geography, basic math, history, civics. I could correctly answer nearly 100%. It’s astounding just how unqualified, to ever be admitted. Frightening. These young know nothings are our future. PS: And my grades were horrible. Something changed. The Federal Department of Education? Stay out of state education responsibilities.

Colleges added vast quantities of superfluous staff members whose purpose was to justify the huge salary increases given to administrators.

Like many government programs, the actual effect was the OPPOSITE of the intended effect: Raising instead of lowering the cost of college education.

Most are $65,000-$75,000/year (except some state universities like Berkeley $55K, UCLA $48K, UFL $31K, UTX $45K, OSU $42K, etc.)

It's not just universities. Top boarding prep schools are even higher, and in my estimation are much more important in terms of developing academic and thinking skills, making the somewhat lesser challenges of university study easily navigable. My Alma Mater, McCallie School in Chattanooga, is now $74,600 ($81,050 international) per year for boarding, $38,800 for day school (It was $1,200/year for day school when I graduated in 1960, and Vanderbilt was $1,500/year for day school when I graduated in 1964.) Choate Rosemary Hall tuition for boarding students is $74,530, and $54,990 to $71,420 for day students. Hill is $81,040 for boarding, $54,980 for day. Phillips Exeter is $71,797 for boarding students and $56,077 for day students. Phillips Andover is $79,800 for boarding students, and $63,840 for day students.

Interesting and totally unexpected fact: USN&WR ranks Central Magnet School in Murfreesboro, TN (35 miles SE of Nashville) as the #3 public high school in the nation.

No one there is learning any more than at a good public school.

There are plenty of state universities that are just as good as the Ivy League. I went to one (University of Illinois). I am hoping both of my kids go to UT Austin.

UT Austin is a very good university (#30). I hope your kids are smart enough to get in.

Why are you so damn bitter about everything?

You are not an educator, so you are not a judge of what constitutes a good education or what prep schools have to offer over the average public school. I am an educator, 13 years as Adjunct Professor at Vanderbilt. My wife has a MA in Education and has taught K-12 in a variety of public schools in FL and TN.

We have attended public and private schools.

We have kids and grandkids who attended public and private schools in OH, FL and TN.

We know the differences in educational curriculum, content, breadth, depth and rigor among various K-12s and colleges, public and private.

You would be wise to not comment on matters in which you have no knowledge and experience. It makes you look like what you are, such as you are, a nefarious nabob of negativity.

A special ed reject.

It’s big business. And big debts. The Federal Government is to blame. And the debt paradigm is the anchor of the current economic disorder. Sadly, too many of no special mental merit think they must go to college for a worthless degree. Most don’t know anything pertinent. Can’t write. Can’t spell. Terrible at geography. Ignorant of taught history. In short my high school education was far more preparatory than many of the community colleges of today. And it was free, public tax supported.

I know you went to a DC prep.

Which one? St Albans? Sidwell? Georgetown? Potomac? Landon?

Good high schools are far more important than good colleges.

If one is a top scholar in a good high school, they could then go to Ohio State University (#41) and probably do better in life than a Yale (#4) graduate, and have a lot more fun.

St. Christopher’s. Transferred to a top rated high school.

I was not a good student. Hated school. Did not do anything extra. Although I was a good drama student. Plays etc. My best friend’s daddy gifted him a Mustang. We had a wild time.

Simple logic. Too bad more people haven't watched that.
