If Americans need to mail to Americans by Dec 11, I will need to beat that by a week to be sure it gets from me to a southern neighbour.

Can someone familiar with doing this tell me if I needn't worry it's Dec. 1st on Monday? I've not done this before so maybe I shouldn't be panicking but I suspect one American friend might be disappointed if my parcel doesn't arrive by Christmas.
