5 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1 tbsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. pure vanilla
6 slices day-old bread
5 tbsp. butter
2 large peeled, cored apples
1/3 cup raisins
1/3 cup halved walnuts
Powdered Sugar, Grated Nutmeg
In a shallow dish, beat eggs and milk, sugar and vanilla together. Lay bread in mixture turning it over until all liquid is soaked up.
In the meantime, melt 3 tablespoons butter in a large frying pan. Cut apples into 1/4 thick slices and cook in butter for 10 minutes.
Now move them to the side and add raisins and walnuts. After a few minutes take everything out and keep it warm.
Melt remaining butter in the pan; add bread slices and cook until brown on both sides. Put French Toast on a serving dish; cover with apples, raisins and walnuts; sprinkle with powdered sugar and nutmeg and serve to Mom, preferably in bed.
