Hear about the little boy who came home from church to delightfully declare that he had sung about "Gladly, the Cross-eyed Bear" that morning? Now Mom had heard a lot of hymns in her day, but not THAT one...turned out to be "Gladly the Cross I Bear!"
Ever KNOW a "cross-eyed bear"? Ever BE a "cross-eyed bear"? Sure, we've all had our share of grouchy, bear-like days, and on those days, don't let anyone cross our paths! Being cross and then acting like a bear on top of it is no fun--you're really quite miserable, and make everyone else miserable around you! But let's be real--sometimes we are all quite guilty!
What's happened? We've gone cross-eyed--spiritually--out of focus with the Lord, ourselves, and life itself. We're not seeing things clearly through God's eyes, and not looking to HIM but to ourselves--our feelings, our faults, our failures--it's called "majoring in F Minor!" We turn our focus inward, and with Paul, we moan and say, "O wretched man (woman) that I am!"....or in plain English, "Man, you sure are a BEAR--and you can't see straight either!"
Anyone will go cross-eyed if he looks at himself--or his imperfect perspective of circumstances--long enough!! God's Word tells us plainly to "look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith." When we look to Him, He sharpens our focus, clears up the fuzzy edges--and straightens out our wrong perspective of things.
Don't be a cross-eyed bear today, for heaven's sake--and yours! Look to your Lord for His help; bear your cross GLADLY--and should you have to deal with a cross-eyed bear today, why not surprise him with a BIG BEAR HUG! It might help to straighten him out--and it will help YOU to have a great day!
