Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan Chase, has addressed the bank's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and the victims of his abuse
. This follows lawsuits alleging the bank facilitated Epstein's sex trafficking.
Dimon expressed regret over the bank's relationship with Epstein, stating, "I am so sad that we had any relation to that man whatsoever," and, "But we banked Jeffrey Epstein and I'm so sorry that we did. I wish we hadn't".
Dimon called what happened to the victims "atrocious" and expressed horror at human trafficking. Dimon said he would personally apologize to the victims for any role the bank may have played, while maintaining the bank's lack of criminal responsibility.
Dimon stated he was unaware of Epstein's crimes until his 2019 arrest. He added that the bank would not have continued doing business with Epstein if they believed he was using the bank for his activities.
JPMorgan Chase reached settlements with Epstein's victims, including a $290 million agreement in a class-action lawsuit and a $75 million settlement with the US Virgin Islands, which includes funds for organizations combating human trafficking.
