While Chicago Public Schools and Illinois students post some of the worst academic outcomes in the nation— with reading and math proficiency rates routinely below 30% for elementary students, even lower for many high schoolers on SAT/ACT benchmarks, and chronic underperformance on NAEP assessments—Governor JB Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson have decided the best use of taxpayer dollars is busing these same struggling kids to political protests. Some of the least academically prepared students in America, many already failing to meet basic grade-level standards in reading and math, are now being ferried on the public dime to rail against the government. If this isn't textbook indoctrination—prioritizing activism over algebra, protests over proficiency, and political theater over actual education—I don't know what is.
