Ever wonder who was behind the famous radio call, "One Adam 12, One Adam 12"?
Her name was Shaaron Claridge (October 1, 1938 – September 15, 2021), and she was not an actress. She was a real Los Angeles Police Department radio dispatcher who worked in the San Fernando Valley.
Producer Jack Webb hired Claridge to provide authentic police radio traffic for Adam-12, and her voice became one of the most recognizable sounds on television. For years, viewers heard her dispatch Officers Pete Malloy and Jim Reed, helping make the series one of the most realistic police dramas ever produced.
Claridge also lent her voice to other television shows and films, including Dragnet, Columbo, Lou Grant, and Blue Thunder. She even made a rare on screen appearance as a dispatcher on Adam-12.
What started as a way to earn a little extra money turned Shaaron Claridge into one of television's most familiar voices, even if most viewers never knew her name.
