Isaiah 5:20 delivers one of the most sobering warnings in Scripture: “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness.” For generations, many treated these words as a distant prophecy. They no longer feel distant.
Across much of the Western world, basic moral distinctions are being inverted. Behaviors once widely recognized as harmful or destructive are now defended as rights, identity, or progress. At the same time, traditional standards of virtue—personal responsibility, the protection of children, biological reality, and the defense of free speech—are frequently labeled as bigotry or oppression.
This is not merely a shift in political opinion. It is a reversal of moral language itself. When societies lose the ability to distinguish good from evil, they lose the foundation needed to restrain injustice, protect the vulnerable, and preserve ordered liberty.
The biblical warning was never meant to encourage despair. It was meant to awaken. Recognizing that we are living in the very time Isaiah described is the first step toward clarity. The second is the willingness to stand for what is true, even when truth is called evil. The day the prophet described is no longer coming. It is here.
