Who are you, Haley Stevens ?
A Democrat. A Michigan congresswoman. A former Obama administration official. And now, a woman who has shown remarkable political courage.
After losing the Democratic Senate primary to Abdul El-Sayed, Stevens initially supported him. But tensions escalated over an outside campaign ad blaming Israel for rising grocery prices, concerns about antisemitism, and the influence of Hasan Piker.
Then came the breaking point. El-Sayed's campaign no longer wanted her at its events.
Today, Stevens crossed party lines to endorse Republican Mike Rogers, explicitly rejecting Hasan Piker and what she described as hateful rhetoric.
She knew the political consequences. Her longtime chief of staff has already resigned.
She chose her conscience over political convenience. That deserves respect. It takes backbone to stand up to your opponents. It takes even more to stand up to your own party.
Respect, Haley Stevens.
