COMANCHE, Texas (KWTX) - Three rodeo horses considered to be like “family” to the owners were killed following an assumed Africanized bee attack according to Comanche Volunteer Fire Department. On Friday, May 9, the Comanche VFD responded to a call referring to bees that were attacking horses on FM 590. First responders said the owners of the horses sustained numerous bee stings attempting to move the horses away from the attacking bees. Comanche County EMS arrived on scene and quickly took the two owners into the ambulance. Firefighters arrived on scene with a type 6 brush truck. Comanche VFD says one of the firefighters and one of the horse owners put on the bee suits to get to the wounded horses. In addition soap was added to the firetruck’s water tank and the horses were sprayed with soapy water in an attempt to stop the bees. Eventually, the horses were finally moved away from the bees, but sustained hundreds of bee stings many of them around the horses’ eyes nostrils and mouths. A local vet and vet tech arrived to treat the injured horses. A local exterminator arrived on scene and located the hive in a tree in the front yard. According to owners, all three injured horses succumbed to the venom and related organ failure. For more detail go to complete story at www.kwtx.com
