I went for a hammer drill when I had a TV wall mount that needed to go into some stone.
This one, a DeWalt DCD999 Did the job for that work. Impact driver would be nice for large projects like decks though I’m hoping I never have to do one of those ever again myself. Previous Message it senses the resistance and then goes into beast mode. You can use it to drill, but impact drills require their own special bits. Perfect for putting down decks or replacing fences. No pre-drilling necessary. Even 3” fasteners are a breeze. I borrowed one to build a (hopefully) no-sag fence gate. Really cut down on time. Let’s just hope I have the compression brace installed correctly
