It has been used by thousands of researchers in engineering, the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, fine arts and other fields. ``There is no other university in the world that can match the computing environment that we have at the U. of I.,`` said Allen, who pointed out that the Massachusetts Institute of Technology does not have a supercomputer. Illinois has one of five supercomputer centers in the nation. The others are at Princeton, Cornell, the University of California at San Diego and Pittsburgh.
