Started off the morning on Links to beat the rain, so my buddy and I made the loop in 2'15" with us being the only idiots out there with the predicted all day deluge. Moved onto the Woodlands for the front nine before the sky opened up, so decided it was a good time for lunch and to wait for another buddy and my cousin for our planned 1pm tee on Links.
Some lunch and libations got us through the storm and the sky lightened just in time to stay on schedule. So another enjoyable quick round on Links (making it 45 holes). My buddies had had their fill, so they decided to pack it in and head up towards Sand Valley and check in for our 1 night accommodations before arriving at Sand Valley today.
My cousin, 18 yrs my senior and of my marathon golf stories, and I continued on Woodlands until we had our fill. I showed him what I thought was Craig Culver's house on Green Lake adjacent to the Woodlands course, so we took a picture in front of it. My cousin is a Culver's franchisee as well, owning 6 stores in the Twin Cities area, so he did some digging to confirm that it indeed was Craig's house. So we decided to knock on the door...
Craig came to the door and with great surprise and a huge smile said, "what are you guys doing here?!!?" and proceeded to invite us in for a cocktail. An hour was spent swapping war stories both positive and negative and it was wonderful to spend a leisurely hour with a wonderful man. I can't tell you how fortunate I am to be associated with such a well run, family oriented company.
Cousin and I continued on for a few more holes as he needed some time before driving after the fingers of bourbon Craig poured for him.
Sank a 60' putt for birdie on hole 59.
Cheers!
