Yesterday, my wife was complaining about a "mouse smell" under our kitchen sink. So, after work, I cleared everything out from under the sink and, sure enough, there was evidence that a mouse had been there. Not unusual when you live next to a cornfield. There is a hole cut in the wood separating the undersink area from the dishwasher. The dishwasher drain line passes through there, along with the power that goes to the garbage disposal. I remembered, at one time, we had steel wool stuffed in the hole to keep mice out. I couldn't find any steel wool to replace it, so I cut an SOS pad in half and tried to use that. The mouse must have chewed a little bit of the electric line connecting to the garbage disposal because, when I stuffed the SOS pad in the hole, there were sparks and I got shocked. No biggie, but the spark also instantly burned a hole in the plastic drain line. Now I have to replace the drain line because it has a hole in it. And I should probably wrap the power line with electrical tape. The bright side? I guess it's good that I was made aware of the flaw in the electric line casing. Otherwise, I suppose water or condensation could drip down the drain line and spark again, causing a fire. Still....stupid mouse. |
