I’m doubting that either of them were actually 20 tons, because I don’t think there were any World War II aircraft that could carry that much (aside from maybe the B-29, which wasn’t used in Europe).

If they were Tallboy or Grand Slam bombs, those were designed to explode deep underground, so they might have been pretty far down and not noticed without modern-day detection equipment.
