Federal Hall is awesome. Great understanding of the founding of our country. Ellis Island is an exceptional visit. Visited numerous times and has gotten better on each visit. Tenement Museum in the East Village is crazy.
Go to Washington Square Park and lose $20 playing chess. Tell them you want to lose medium and it will be a highly entertaining way to spend $20. After go to Faicco's and get an Italian Sandwich. Definitely feeds 2 and potentially 3 off of one sandwich but so so good.
I am biased, but Stone and Pearl Street history is fun. If you dine on Stone Street, you are likely helping pay my salary. I walk through the Oculus daily but it is an architectural marvel that is amazing to see from the inside and the outside Previous Message
Last year we did Central Park, the High Line, observation deck at the Edge (super touristy, but fun nonetheless), and the Met over a quick weekend. Plus the West Wing exhibit at the Paley Center, which was cool.
This time we're staying down around Union Square and will be there almost a week. I'm going to work from our NYC office one morning since my wife has a work presentation to give, we might try to take in a Broadway show, and the wife wants to go to a needlepoint store on the Upper East side, but other that we have no plans as of yet.
