we went in winter, and in the north we were able to see the northern lights, went snowmobiling, and saw a little more natural beauty (for my tastes).
in the south we did waterfalls, a black sand beach, and horseback riding. it was good, but not as good, imo.
my one recommendation would be that if you do the blue lagoon, splurge for the private spa side. it's seriously nice and you avoid the crowds.
