Now, if you've never had chicken pox, then that is a concern for an adult. The virus can be deadly in an adult that gets the infection. I've taken care of a few adults with severe pneumonia/pneumonitis from the varicella infection. One died. You can request your doctor test you to see if you've been truly exposed to chicken pox and have an immunity to it. I've never had the chicken pox. Then, when my kids were little and got their chicken pox vaccines, I went ahead and got vaccinated for that at the same time as them.
