I don't have a lot of concrete memories, but here's what I've got:
-male avant garde-ish singer and performance artist, active in the '70s and/or '80s
-not well known by the general public, but something of a cult favorite among those in the know
-possibly German or French?
-died relatively young, possibly of AIDS or some other tragic reason
-I think there was a doc made about him at some point in the past 10-20 years, which is how I heard of him
I feel like I would know the name if I saw it. I've tried googling pretty much every combination of the above factoids that I can think of, but I'm coming up empty. Now it's time for a hail Mary, and if the Deuce can't help, I'll be forced to turn to Reddit.
