US GFS Model...
Light snow will start to spread after midnight, likely after 2am, remaining intermittent though 9am, growing in intensity slowly until 1pm for Champaign (Chicago will remain light until 3-4pm), then really get going around 5pm. By 8pm, snow in Champaign may mix with rain as it gets warmer but Chicago will remain solidly snow. By 11pm, snow/rain mix in Champaign will turn to all rain...Chicago will have started with a mix by 9pm and by 4am Sunday the snow/rain mix will end.
When all is said and done...
Champaign 3-4"
Chicago 4-6", favoring the west.
Euro ECMWF Model...
Snow will begin and in earnest by 6am for Chicago but not until in Champaign until noon, and even then through 6pm will be to the west. Chicago will remain firmly in snow all day with 4-6" by 6pm. Yeah. Champaign may have a trace by then. By 9pm, any snow in Champaign would have changed to rain. Still snowing in Chicago until 3am. Champaign maybe an inch when it's over - and it won't sit for long, while Chicago according to the Euro model says 6-12" with the heaviest to the south western 1/3 of Chicagoland.
So, yeah, a bit of a difference but the trend looks to keep things to the north of Champaign. 24 hours ago, the Euro model suggested 6-8" then 12 hours ago 2-4" and now an inch at best.
