That wad seemed to be big enough to hold 80 x $100 bills BUT how on earth would the Bailey B&L be holding so much of that denomination? Given that people are paying their mortgages from $10 or maybe $30 at a time ($10 then is worth $178 in today’s dollars), the B&L would only have those denominations on hand to deposit and would never have $100s on hand. If you split $8,000 by an equal number of $10s and $20s, you’d have 600 bills and clearly Uncle Billy did not have such a wad big enough. Plus, I would think they’d deposit in the bank less $$$ but more frequently so as to have less literal exposure to theft or loss as demonstrated by Uncle Billy.
