limiting sodium, added sugar, and highly processed foods.
The new guidance on alcohol intake is long overdue imo and to be applauded.
While iirc there is lip service to limiting saturated fat intake, foods high in saturated fat (notably animal sources such as meat and full-fat dairy) are encouraged, whereas previous guidelines recommended limited intake of lean meats and reduced-fat dairy in order to limit intake of saturated fats.
The messaging and rollout have been a little confusing. The “old pyramid” is no longer part of dietary guidelines, having been replaced with MyPlate in 2011. MyPlate.gov now redirects to the new guidelines, and I haven’t seen any new guidance about whether MyPlate is to be considered unreliable or whatever, though maybe I missed it…but hey at least I’m sending a book to the printer next week with MyPlate in it. 😒
