TL/DR is DON'T THROW AWAY the free card giveaway you'll be receiving
One Piece is a Japanese anime (manga?) series that either has an associated card game or just highly valued collectibles. That's about all I know about them. They are partnering with Illinois, Gonzaga, St. Johns, Rutgers, and Houston for exclusive giveaways and a halftime show at select conference games. For Illinois, it's the upcoming home games vs. Indiana (Sun., Feb. 15), Michigan (Fri., Feb. 27), and Oregon (Tue., Mar. 3). They've already done the first Rutgers game and the cards they handed out to each attendee have been selling for between $400-500 on Ebay. Thus the lowest price on Stubhub for just one person to get in the door for tonight's Michigan State @ Rutgers game is $238. It's possible that by the first Illinois game the market will already be saturated but there could be unintended consequences from this bizarre partnership.

The good news:
- If you can't attend the Indiana, Michigan, or Oregon game you can get significantly more selling your ticket on the secondary market.
- If you know someone (or you, yourself) are into One Piece you'll have a rare collectible.
- Even if the price stabilizes, you will possibly be able to sell your free card giveaway for a couple hundred dollars.
Now the bad news:
- If you are simply trying to buy tickets to attend the three home conference games when this is taking place you have to compete with resellers and big-time anime fans. Cheapest Indiana ticket right now is $210, Michigan - $306, Oregon - $102.
- Are these speculators and animaniacs going to bother even attending the game? The Michigan game is the special halftime show (no idea). Is everyone who's buying up the tickets for the One Piece of it all going to bail on the second half of a top ten matchup?
Hopefully this sideshow doesn't detract from the basketball game itself but folks here should be aware of what's going to be happening the last three home conference games this season.
