Guards
Jasmine Brown-Hagger - Senior - Very up and down offensively, but a very good defensive player. I think this is a spot that could be upgraded, but I know Shauna loves her defense.
Maddie Webber - Senior - One of the smoothest offensive players on the roster and probably the fastest. Shes very good on the break and an excellent weapon off the bench. Very inconsistent and really struggled against top teams this year.
Gretchen Dolan - RS Junior - Two straight years she went out with a knee injury. Last year I think she just rested/rehabbed, this year she got a procedure done. I think the health of that knee will determine a lot about what they do in the portal.
Aaliyah Guyton - Junior - Was injured for the first 10-15 games of the year. Had a few games where she started showing real progress, but then regressed the last 2-3 weeks. She looks the part, but I think they expected a lot more from her. I think health was a big factor here.
Destiny Jackson - Sophomore - True point guard who had a solid freshman season. Tried to do too much at times leading to silly turnovers, and needs to work on her jump shot and finishing around the rim. I think she'll improve A LOT heading into next season.
Erica Finney - RS Freshman - Had knee surgery I think on both legs right before the start of the season. She's an excellent shooter, but I don't know what role she'll play moving forward. The team needs more outside shooting and she does have the same birthday as Caitlin Clark so maybe that is a good sign?
Forwards
Berry Wallace - Junior - Really solid player who does everything well. Averaged 18 ppg this year (basically doubled her scoring from her freshman season). I think she would benefit from having a guard who could spread the floor. The paint gets very crowded when there aren't enough dangerous shooters on the perimeter.
Irene Noya Catoira - Junior - Eh, I've seen nothing to indicate she can help at this level. Seems like a good locker room personality. I could see her as a transfer candidate.
Cearah Parchment - Sophomore - The #1 has to stay player on the team. She is a future pro that has an inside outside game you don't see very often in the women's game. A year of additional strength training and learning the game will be huge for her. If the Illini women do take the next step and become a host for tournament games, it will be primarily because Parchment took them there.
Naomi Benson - Sophomore - I think she'll have a bigger role next year. Undersized forward, but I think she has a good motor and eye for the ball. I hope she stays.
Manuella Alves - RS Freshman - Another X-Factor for next season as she missed the whole year with a knee injury. Plays for the Brazilian national team and started most of her games, so has experience against WNBA players. She has real offensive talent and would be a huge addition to next year's rotation.
Center
Lety Vasconcelos - RS Junior - Played some valuable minutes against teams with size. Due to injuries this was pretty much her freshman season. I think she'll be better next year coming back from a really bad ACl/Knee injury.
Hayven Smith - Junior - Didn't really improve from her freshman year. Other than being a rotation piece, not sure her future role.
They have one grad-transfer leaving the program (Gisela Segura) so that opens up one spot for a portal addition. I would imagine we see 2-4 additional roster changes. I think the team needs to focus on finding more outside shooting (to open up space for Wallace and Parchment), athleticism at the wing, and identifying a big who can make layups more consistently and contest shots without fouling.
Pretty excited for next year if they keep the core together. The goal IMO should be a top 6 finish in the Big Ten and a 4/5 seed in the tournament.
