Indiana and Michigan tied for first (Illinois was last), and needed a playoff to determine the sole Big Ten team in the tournament. Champaign was chosen as the neutral site, and Michigan won. Michigan lost in the second round to Marquette, who lost to David Thompson and NC State in the final.
