olympic sports are a mess
the guaranteed scholarships have forced schools to cut back the number of roster spots since they can't offer partials anymore, and the budgets just don't support it outside of the revenue top 25 athletic departments. this pushes fringe d1 scholarship athletes to d2, which then pushes d1 walkons and former d2 athletes down to d3 or naia. Men's/women's hoops, football; and enough schollies on the women's side to balance the football schollies.
Maybe not in my lifetime, but sometime in the lifetime of other posters.
