This year has by far been Illinois' best season since 2021. The road to this Sweet Sixteen has not been smooth. Illinois' 2025 season ended in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as it fell to Oklahoma, another disappointing finish for a good program that was striving to get back to greatness. Dancer's fix for that was injecting the team with new energy, with five freshmen.
No other top-15 program has that many. It was a risky move, one that could have fallen both ways. For others, the expectation with a roster so young might have been a winning record or simply getting to the tournament. But for Dancer, the goal was always to win it all.
