The Deuce: Unfortunately, banks are infrastructure as much as they are industry

The counter factual where we let them all fail is a genuinely interesting one. Bailing them out was terrible for sure, and it started the erosion of public trust in institutions which paved the way for Trump, but what would the cascading effects of a financial system collapse actually have looked like? I have no idea. But this wasn’t like bailing out the car industry, which would have had fewer cascading effects outside the rust belt.
