However, my problem is that the face scan/fingerprint machines accomplish nothing. Instead of letting you then pass through an auto checkpoint and be on your way, they just tell you to go to the regular passport clearance line. Even those who came to Split from within Schengen had the same experience.
I’m sure it will be better eventually, but right now it is Microsoft release beta test worthy.

ETIAS will start operations in the last quarter of 2026.
No action is required from travellers at this point.
The European Union will inform about the specific date for the start of ETIAS several months prior to its launch.
We're going to the Netherlands, Croatia, and Bosnia in a couple of weeks. Seems like it's currently business as usual to go there (i.e., not electronic travel authorization required)?
